Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 7th - 8th August ![]() Now in its sixth year, Belladrum is an eagerly anticipated landmark in the Scottish festival calendar. Enjoy an eclectic line-up of music and performing arts at this family-friendly festival near Beauly, Highlands.

It is staged in a fantastic setting of terraced Italian gardens, mature trees, fields and parkland with the hills beyond. International Piping Festival, Glasgow 13-16 August![]()
In the year of Homecoming Scotland 2009, Glasgow hosts the World Pipe Band Championships and its renowned international piping festival, Piping Live. Join the party! One of the most exciting annual celebrations of Scottish culture, the festival of piping runs from 10th - 16th August, bringing some of the world’s top piping talent to perform with Scotland's finest home grown artists across Glasgow's world-class venues and outdoor spaces. The National Piping Centre is the festival’s hub, hosting 'come-and-try sessions' and performances from the best piping folk combos, duos and groups, while George Square stages free daily highlights. Known to locals as simply 'The Festival', from late July until early September is when Edinburgh is at its busiest, buzziest and for many, its best. Founded in 1947 and still going strong, the Edinburgh International Festival is possibly the most exciting, innovative and accessible Festival of the performing arts in the world, comprising dance, music, theatre and opera. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is huge, with thousands of shows in hundreds of venues taking in everything from stand-up to physical theatre and celebrity chat. The Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival gets the party started with an exciting programme including the legendary Mardi Gras parade and Jazz on a Summer's Day in Princes Street Gardens. The Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of Scotland's most iconic events. Held annually in August, it a unique blend of music and military theatre set against the backdrop of a floodlit Edinburgh Castle.
Since the event first took place in 1950, more than 12 million people have experienced this spectacular event and over 40 countries have been represented with an array of different bands and displays. 2009 sees Scotland's colourful military musical spectacular pay tribute to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Scotland's national bard, Robert Burns, in an emotive performance of pride and passion, during Scotland's first year of Homecoming. A cosmopolitan cast of top-class talent will be present, including highlights such as the world-famous Massed Pipes & Drums, the Massed Bands of The Royal Air Force, Switzerland's Top Secret Drum Corps, along with the Edinburgh Tattoo Highland Spring Dancers, the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the traditional haunting notes of the Lone Piper and, in their first Tattoo appearance, the Central Band of the Swiss Army.
